Why "Brackets W"?

Brackets W is a reference to how service women were officially recognised in written correspondence.  To make sure that everyone knew that the service person referred to was a female – or part of the women’s services - her name would appear something like this: Captain J Doe (W),  or Captain (W) J Doe.  Particularly important when arranging accommodation!

Special Thanks

Special thanks to those that believed in the dream and Michelle, who not only gave me the first item in the collection, and suggested I start collecting women’s stories, but also spent some considerable time cataloguing the books.

The Design Team

The development of the site has been a collaboration between some very remarkable people, all  based in Wellington New Zealand, who used their creative talents and professional skills (funded and unfunded) to bring the museum to life.  The Church developed the brand identity and the Brackets-W logo, Alto designed the look, feel and functionality of the website and Dymanic delivered the integrated content-managed-fantastically-updatable and super-fabulously-searchable final solution. Altitude Consulting Group created the vision for the site, and Jonny photographed many of the items.
